Mike Scullen represents individuals and businesses throughout Michigan, in addition to Canadians who own U.S. property and business interests. Mike specializes in estate planning and probate avoidance, international estate and tax planning, tax avoidance and tax minimization strategies, and business law and business succession planning. Through practical and cost-effective solutions, Mike is helping clients navigate their legal issues and minimize tax liabilities.

Prior to joining Strobl Sharp PLLC in 2021, Mike owned and operated his own firm (Scullen Law Offices, PLLC) for 16 years while also serving as of counsel to Siegel, Greenfield & Hayes, PLC from 2018 to 2021.

Mike earned his business degree from Michigan State University where he was a varsity letterman and 4-year member of the Track & Field team. He then went to law school at American University in Washington, DC, which is where he married his college sweetheart (Liesl). They now live in Beverly Hills and have two adult children, Lindsey and Sean. Mike continues to enjoy running and is a member of the Michigan State University Varsity Alumni “S” Club.

Experience

  • Advises individuals and families on estate planning and probate avoidance planning, including revocable trusts, wills, financial and medical powers of attorneys, in addition to more specialized planning relating to irrevocable and dynastic/multi-generational trusts, discounted gifts, cross-border estate planning, charitable trusts, special needs trusts, asset protection planning, and family cottage planning.
  • Advises businesses and their owners on a variety of legal issues, including choice of entity and business formation, shareholder and operating agreements, contract negotiation and drafting, taxation, business sales and transactions, and business succession planning.
  • Advises clients on estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax planning, including the preparation of gift tax returns and estate tax returns.
  • Represents fiduciaries and beneficiaries on post-death estate and trust administration matters.
  • Represents individuals and businesses in the purchase and sale of real estate.
  • Represents individuals and businesses in negotiating and drafting employment contracts.
